LAHORE– PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has asked India to stop oppression of Kashmiris and solve the problem in the light of the UN resolutions.
Nawaz Sharif said this while talking to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Yasin Malik who called on him at Raiwind on Friday. On the occasion, Malik condoled with Nawaz Sharif the death of Abbas Sharif besides exchanging views on Kashmir and the current regional situation.
Yasin Malik briefed Nawaz Sharif on the situation in Held Kashmir after the execution of Afzal Guru by India without providing to him defence, on the charges of masterminding an attack on the Indian parliament. He also highlighted the Indian oppression of the Kashmiri people. Nawaz Sharif reiterated demand for immediate resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions. He also asked the Indian government to stop oppression of the Kashmiri people. He said his party would continue to support the cause of Kashmiris.
He underlined the need for resolving the Kashmir issue at the earliest for the sake of regional peace, in the light of the internationally recognised resolutions. Nawaz recalled that during his second stint in the office of prime minister, Kashmir was much near settlement, but General Pervez Musharraf dismissed his government, causing great harm to the Kashmir issue. He said resolution of Kashmir issue was essential for peace in the region as well as for strengthening Pakistan.
