Rehman Baba Flyover in the offing

PESHAWAR In order to overcome traffic issue in the provincial metropolis, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has decided to build 'Rehman Baba Flyover by spending Rs 170.4 million, which is considered to minimise the problem to a great extent, officials said. To facilitate commuters and minimise their hardships, this mega project was being launched on war footings, as the provincial government has called for go ahead. In this connection, a meeting of Provincial Working Development Party (PWDP) was held with additional chief secretary Atta-ur-Rehman Toru in the chair. Senior officials from PWDP, Local government, Finance, C&W, Director General Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and DCO Peshawar also attended the meeting. The Rehman Baba Flyover, the officials said, would cost Rs 170.4 million. During the meeting the construction of Rehman Baba Flyover starting from Jail Chowk to Bacha Khan Chowk was approved. They said apart from it, it was also decided to rebuild a number of roads in Peshawar cantonment area. They said in the first phase, formal work on the flyover would be launched soon which would be completed by spending Rs 170.4 million, while in the second phase, the flyover would be extended from Bacha Khan Chowk to Charsadda Road and Dalazak Road. The PC-I of the project was presented and with little changes, it was approved. Being well aware of traffic problems being faced by the citizen of the provincial metropolis, the government has formally approved the plan after its approval from the PWDP. In the same meeting, it was also approved to rebuild certain damaged roads in Peshawar cantonment area. It is worth to mention here that due to security concerns, the provincial was reluctant to built the Flyover on the same location, as it would be passed on near to the provincial assembly, Peshawar High Court, Central Prison, Radio Pakistan, however, it has now agreed and approved the plan, the sources concluded. Meanwhile, a month-long clash between two armed groups claimed five more lives the other day in Bazaar Zekha Khel here, official sources said. They said that armed persons of defunct Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) attacked a trench of Shertali. In a fierce fighting between the two groups, LI regained its possession and killed five persons from Zekha Khel, they said adding that four other people also sustained injuries. It is worth mentioning here that the fighting in Zekha Khel have killed more than 35 persons so far.
