ISLAMABAD- General Lloyd J. Austin, Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), departed Pakistan today after a series of meetings with senior Pakistani leaders.  While in Islamabad, General Austin discussed a wide range of common security issues with Secretary of Defense Lt. Gen (Retired) Asif Yasin Malik, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashid Mahmood.

General Austin was grateful for the opportunity to discuss sensitive matters with Pakistani counterparts and reaffirmed the importance of relations between the two countries.  This was General Austin’s fourth visit to Pakistan since assuming command of U.S. Central Command in 2013.
