LEAs bust eight in fresh raids

KARACHI - The Law enforcement agencies Saturday claimed to have arrested eight suspects including alleged target killers and extortionists from several areas of the metropolis. Crime Investigation Department investigation claimed that it arrested an extortionist from Walika Chowrangi situated at SITE area and recovered weapon from his possession. SP Mazhar Mashwani said that police party conducted raid at Walika Chowrangi Site area in Site B police precincts. After brief encounter they arrested a notorious extortionist namely Iftikhar Ahmed and recovered TT pistol from his possession. Mashwani said the accused was involved in several cases of extortion. During interrogation, he confessed that he was involved in receiving extortions from the factory owners and when they offered resistance or argued, he gave threats of murder and other dire consequences. Police registered an FIR No 448/11 under Section 7 ATA, 384, 386 against him. Further investigation was underway. Further, the security agencies conducted raid on a tip off at Lyari Naddi in the back off Bantwa Nagar, Liaquatabad and recovered two hand grenades and one repeater from the scene. Sources said police party conducted raid on the tip off of detained persons. Police called Bomb Disposal Squad and disposed of the grenades. Police registered an FIR No 127/11 and further investigations were underway. Separately Crime Branch-II conducted raid at Karbala Ground, Korangi No 6 and arrested five people namely Saddam, Adnan, Arsalan, Kamran and Omar and recovered one 222 rifle, three TT pistols, one 9-MM pistols from their possession. Inspector Anwar Jaffery said all of them were involved in several crimes including robberies, attempt to murders and street crimes. His two accomplices managed to flee from the scene and started searching them. Meanwhile Saudabad police arrested a target killer namely Waseem from Malir Kala Board and recovered a TT pistol from his possession. Police said he was involved in murder case in Brigade police precincts. SAIs new heads elected unanimously: Mohammed Irfan Moton, Asad Nisar Barkhurdaria and Junaid Muhammad Siddique have been unanimously elected as Chairman, Senior Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of SITE Association of Industry (SAI) for year 2011-12. Mohammed Irfan Moton is a prominent industrialist who has also served in the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industrys managing committee for several terms. In his welcome speech, Irfan expressed gratitude to the Patron-in-Chief Siraj Qaim Teli and the Chairman Sindh Board of Investments Zubair Motiwala and all the other members for the confidence they showed in him by electing him as the Chairman. He assured the General Body to take all possible steps and make his best efforts to resolve the issues related to industries and to promote industrialization, generating employment.
