RAHIM YAR KHAN
The Government Comprehensive High School, the largest in Rahim Yar Khan district, has been faced with the shortage of classrooms for many a year thereby forcing the students to attend lectures under the open sky.
This school owns a total of 43-kanal land and there are only 11 classrooms with four science laboratories and a big auditorium. More than 1,300 students are enrolled while 46 teachers are posted in the school.
In each classroom, 90 to 100 students are accommodated.
Principal Muhammad Wazir Ahmad said that 11 classrooms could not accommodate the huge number of students, and that it needed 15 more classrooms. He said that yearly budget of the school was almost Rs1 million. He further said that due to lack of classrooms, the students had to get education under the open sky. However, tents had been arranged for some classes, he said.
He also sought a solution to the permanent accumulation of sewerage as the sewerage line of school is at lower level than the main sewerage line of the city. Mr Wazir said that due to brackish subsoil water administration could not maintain the grass of playing grounds and plants.
A large number of the bungalows of various government officers consume the whole irrigation water, the only watercourse which carries irrigation water from Sadiq branch canal, thereby depriving the school of the facility, an employee said. The hostel building is in the use of District Education office and other junior officers, he added.
