CHAKWAL - A rally was taken out on Monday by journalist to condemn the brutal assault of police on media persons in Islamabad and killing of three journalists in Quetta.The rally was started from Press Club Chakwal. The journalists wore black armbands and chanted slogans against the government. They demanded protection for journalists.Earlier, President Chakwal Press Club Arshad Mehmood Abbasi presided over a meeting where journalists condemned police action and demanded immediate inquiry into the incident.PESHAWAR REPORTER ADDS: Condemning the brutality and atrocity of Punjab police against peaceful marchers and media persons in Islamabad, dozens of Insaf Students Federation (ISF) activists staged a protest demonstration in front of the Peshawar Press Club on Monday. The protest was headed by ISF District President Bilal Afridi along with dozens of student activists from the Government College Peshawar and other educational institutions. They protesters were holding placards and banners, inscribed with slogans against Punjab police and PML-led federal government for yesterday brutal episode on Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad.Talking to journalists, Bilal Afridi said the Punjab police used brutal force against the peaceful demonstrators of PTI and PAT, which is strongly condemnable. He termed it a worst kind of atrocity and outrageous act. He made it clear that Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif should keep in mind that the force policy would not discourage PTI and PAT protesters. He vowed they would stay till the resignation of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and would further move forward. He warned the government of dire consequences if it registers FIR under terrorism act against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PAT Chief Allama Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. The PTI student activists also deplored the Punjab attack on media persons teams, which is performing their professional responsibilities.Rawalpindi REPORTER ADDS: Rawalpindi Correspondent adds: Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) vehemently denounced police brutality on media persons covering clashes between law enforcement agencies and protesters of PAT and PTI in Red Zone area of Islamabad.The CPDI demanded of the government to take notice of the incident and take strict action against the cops and officers involved in attack on media persons. Talking to media persons here on Monday, CPDI Programme Manager Syed Kausar Abbas Bukhari condemned police attack on media men in Red Zone and said that journalism is a noble profession and journalists are like eyes and ears of the society. He said that police assaulted against media on the nod of the government to gag its voice of truth."The way police resorted to media cameramen, reporters and other technical staffers covering PTI and PAT clashes with police is horrible and highly condemnable and has become part of history," Syed Kausar Shah said, adding that Punjab and Islamabad police were involved in violence against journalists. The most worried thing is that some ministers have jumped into the arena to hide the suppression of police saying, "We don't know who these people are in police uniform and beating media." Bukhari demanded of the government to take strict action against the police vagabonds for torturing media men and bring them to court of justice.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
