PESHAWAR - Tanver Sherazi, provincial president of Muttahidda Christian Rabita Committee, has said that certain elements for the sake of personal interests are trying to turn Christian and Muslim communities against each other on Edwards College issue.
Addressing a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Sherazi alleged that an illegal and self-proclaimed bishop was trying to occupy the Edwards College by spreading a baseless and wrong propaganda in Christian community. He added that Humphrey Sarfaraz Peter and his allies were spreading religious hatred between the two communities for the sake of their personal interests.
Flanked by Rashid Masih, Jamaat-e-Islami provincial leader and minorities representative, he said that Peter wanted to take administrative control of the Edwards College by spreading baseless propaganda among the respective community. Sherazi explained that Edwards College was a missionary institute and would remain missionary. He vowed not to compromise on rendering any sacrifice for the development and protection of the same college.
He also alleged that Humphrey Peter wanted to bring a principal of his own choice in Edwards College to paw way for his corruption.
"We have full confidence in the Edwards College Board of Governors (BoG) and hopes that the Board would never take any decision due to which the feelings of Christian community will be hurt," he said.
He demanded the college board of governors keep away Sarafaz Peter from the college affairs, and appealed to Christian community not to pay attention towards the misleading and baseless propaganda of certain selfish elements.
