WASHINGTON: International community has acknowledged Pakistan's efforts for its nuclear security.

This was stated by Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi while talking to stat-run media at the end of three-day Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.

He said President Obama appreciated the fact that several countries, including Pakistan, have ratified the 2005 Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.

He said Pakistan's active participation in the Summit conveyed to international community far reaching initiatives taken by Pakistan to enhance and strengthen security and safety of its nuclear material.

Responding to a question, Fatemi said that in the summit there was no adverse reference by any delegate on Pakistan's nuclear programme and its safety.

Fatemi said that during meetings and working sessions, Pakistan highlighted its role as a responsible nuclear power and the fact that it was party to several international instruments relevant to nuclear safety and security.                           

Meanwhile, Foreign Office has said that Pakistan has strong credentials for full integration into the multilateral non-proliferation regimes as an equal partner.

This was stated in a statement issued in the perspective of Pakistan's participation in the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.

The statement said Pakistan projected itself as a nuclear power that remains fully alive to its responsibilities.

Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi who represented Pakistan at the summit highlighted measures undertaken by Islamabad for nuclear security.

Another important highlight of his remarks was Pakistan's recent ratification of the 2005 Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials.
