ISLAMABAD - Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has warned the government that his party would launch countrywide protest if their reservations on 21st constitutional amendment are not fully addressed.
Talking to media after party’s central Executive Committee (Shoora) meeting here at his residence in Ministers’ Colony on Monday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced countrywide protest in March if the amendments proposed by his party in 21st Constitutional Amendment are not incorporated in it.
Pointing out flaws in the 21st Constitutional Amendment, the JUI-F chief said that instead of quelling terrorism the amendment would be protesting terrorists in many ways and would also spread sectarian hatred. He further said that they would not let any one target religious seminaries in the name of operation against terrorism and demanded of the government to make the law having blanket application, so that terrorism in all its forms and manifestation could be weeded out from society.
He once again called upon the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) to fully incorporate the amendments proposed by his party and introduce it in form of 22nd Constitutional Amendment.
To a question Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that his party would observe Feb. 5 as solidarity day with people of Kashmir and would join all the events and rallies on the day to show their moral support to the people of Kashmir who are fighting for their right of self-determination.
To another question Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that they would contest the upcoming elections on its own and not as part of the coalition with the ruling PML-N because they are coalition partners in government and not have any electoral alliance with PML-N. The JUI-F would watch its interests and would enter into alliance with other political parties keeping in view their party interests and to secure maximum seats in the given situation, he explained.
To another question he condemned the blasphemous sketches made by a foreign media outlet saying that it is their moral and religious duty to raise voice against such acts and would continue to condemn it at all available forums.
Condemning the attack at Imambargah in Shikarpur in the harshest words the JUI-F chief said that his party was against sectarianism and demanded of the government to take concrete steps for promoting sectarian harmony. He suggested that government should do legislation on it in consultation with the religious scholars from sects, so that they could be brought under some legal and constitutional framework to avoid chances of clashes between them.
