ISLAMABAD- Former DG of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General (R) Athar Abbas said Zarb-e-Azb is not merely a military operation; it is an operation with complete national consensus.
Abbas argued that one shouldn’t expect a vast number of terrorist deaths in operation Zarb-e-Azb; however they do need further elimination from cities for the offensive to be successful. He claimed all major cities within the country will be cleared of the threat within a month.
The former DG ISPR added that it was believed at the time of a military operation in South Waziristan that the militants had been isolated, but this was not the reality of the situation. He stressed that forces should be prepared for any possible counter-attack by militants in North Waziristan.
Regarding his statement on the decision of an offensive and General (R) Kayani’s reluctance on the matter, Abbas remarked that his response at that point was to a question asked during an interview by a foreign news agency.
