MANAGING Director Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Newspapers Majid Nizami has said friendship with India is not possible till the resolution of Kashmir and water issues. Kashmir dispute needs to be resolved as per UN resolutions, he stated, adding, We cannot get anything concrete from peace talks or something like Aman Ki Asha without resolving the core issue of Kashmir. He said, Army is a must as India is our eternal enemy. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had said, 'Kashmir is Pakistans jugular vein and a major source of water supply, he added. No peace process could yield fruitful results until this dispute was settled, he stated. He further said India had started a water war against Pakistan as part of its sinister design to make Pakistan barren, adding that he backed atomic war with India because aggression needed to be paid in the same coin. In an interview with PTV News on Sunday, Nizami said he did nothing except journalism throughout in his life and he had been serving the Nawa-i-Waqt Group since 1962. The Nawa-i-Waqt Group had a specific policy and the Group sans policy was not acceptable for its readership, he added. The Group had been pursuing its policy without submitting to any pressure even from the government, he said. He went on saying, We are against dictatorship and want Pakistan a democratic and an Islamic welfare state. Nizami said it was only the Nawa-i-Waqt which was still being published continuously, otherwise all newspapers, which were launched at the time of Pakistans creation, had almost vanished. To another query, he regretted that Pakistans electronic media was mostly following Indian media without caring for our own traditions and moral values. The print media would remain important despite the fact that electronic media had dominated the scene, he hoped. Future of print media is bright, he said. To a question, Nizami said the US had most atomic bombs but its reputation was not affected, but Pakistans nuclear project was being targeted for nothing. He said presence of the US in Afghanistan had a specific agenda. The US did not want to see Pakistan a nuclear power and Washington, by sitting in Afghanistan, wanted to maintain pressure on Iran as well as to keep an eye on Pakistan. To another question about merger of PML factions, Nizami said it was not possible yet, adding that PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif was a major hurdle in this connection while PML-Q leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi was also sticking to his stance. However, he said further efforts for unification would be made after Nawaz return from the UK. Commenting on the issue of renaming of NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nizami recalled that during a visit to Peshawar, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah himself had named the province as NWFP (Sarhad). Either the political leaders were not aware of its historical background or they were careless of its repercussions, he added.
