PESHAWAR - Owing to security concerns, at least 15 high profile prisoners were shifted from Central Prison Peshawar to Haripur, sources said on Friday.
They said that at present dozens of high profile prisoners were languishing in the Central Jail Peshawar and the prison’s administration was under constant pressure from militants groups.
“To avoid any untoward incident, the provincial government has decided to shift them to other jails, including Haripur, Mardan and Kohat,” the sources added. They said that the 15 high profile prisoners were shifted to the Central Prison Haripur through three APCs in the tight police’s security.
It has also been decided that it would not be favourable to keep such high profile prisoners in one jail, just because of constant threats from militants groups.
Keeping in view attacks on Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan jails, the administration of Central Prison Peshawar was really concerned about the high profile detainees in the jail. The government has already taken a decision to construct a separate jail for militants in Mardan but it would take time.
