Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership has claimed that senior party leader and close aid of Farooq Sattar, Aftab Ahmed died in the custody of the Rangers, Waqt News reported. The MQM leader had been under Rangers’ 90-day detention.
According to reports, JPMC’s head of emergency, Dr Seemin Jamali said Aftab Ahmed was brought to hospital early in the morning. “He did not have pulse or blood pressure and died after a few minutes of arriving in the hospital,” she told the media.
Aftab Ahmed along with seven other accused had been presented in front of the court by Rangers for the 90-day detention for interrogation. “As he died under the custody of law enforcement agencies, hence his postmortem will be conducted in the presence of a magistrate,” hospital sources told the media.
“He was arrested and detained after solid proofs of his involvement in crimes of target killing, kidnapping, and extortion and was punishable under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997,” Rangers officials said.
Rangers have started an extensive operation against the militants, target killers and extortionists. The operation came into the limelight when Rangers raided MQM headquarters at Nine-Zero and arrested several accused murderers and kidnappers.
MQM has been alleging that their workers and leaders are being arrested without any proofs and that they are being kept under arrest and detention without any specific reason.
