The opposition parties have prepared a consented Terms of References (ToRs) with regards to Panama Leaks probe, Waqt News reported. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan said the entire opposition has agreed on the ToRs.
While talking to media after the joint meeting of the opposition, the PPP leader said the ToRs demand that Prime Minister and his family be investigated with regards to their involvement in Panama Papers.
“The investigation of their assets, their details, and the transfer of money should be investigated at the international level,” he said. “The assets in the name of PM’s children and wife and other close relatives should also be investigated.
“The Judicial Commission under Chief Justice of Pakistan should investigate the PM and his family’s involvement within three months, while other individuals involved in Panama Leaks can be investigated within a year.
“The assets whose ownership the PM’s son has accepted, must be investigated firstly including the money trail from which those assets were made,” Aitzaz Ahsan demanded.
On the question of PM’s resignation, Ahsan said most of the opposition parties demand the resignation of Nawaz Sharif.
“PTI has same stance on Prime Minister’s resignation,” PTI’s spokesperson stated. “We think that is the only way the investigation will be transparent.”
The ANP spokesperson said that ANP is not in favor of the PM’s resignation at the moment. “We feel it is not the right time,” he told the media.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is under severe pressure after the Panama Leaks wherein his children have been accused of possessing offshore companies. Following the leaks, the opposition parties strongly demanded transparent and quick investigation.
Although the PM announced a Judicial Commission for the investigations but the opposition rejected it on the basis of its vague ToRs. Henceforth, the opposition held joint meetings to give their mutual demands to government.
PTI and PPP were in the favor of PM’s resignation before the investigation but haven’t been able to convince other major political parties on the matter.
