LAHORE - According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, seven per cent of Pakistanis suffer from hunger often, which is higher than the global average of three per cent.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Have there been times in the last 12 months when you or your family have not had enough to eat?” Responding to this, 52 per cent said never, 23 per cent said sometimes, 16 per cent said rarely and 7 per cent said often. However, 2 per cent did not give any response.
The poll was part of a global study conducted by WIN-Gallup International, the world’s leading network of opinion researchers and pollsters. Responding to the same question, the global average of felt-hunger shows that 78 per cent chose ‘never’, 9 per cent chose ‘rarely’, 9 per cent chose ‘sometimes’ and 3 per cent chose ‘often’. However, 1 per cent did not give any response. The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2705 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 27, 2011 – December 03, 2011. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95 per cent confidence level.
