Gang-rape victim threatens self-immolation

A gang rape victim has threatened to commit self-immolation in front of Chief Minister’s House in Lahore in protest against the police dillydallying to arrest her rapists. She accused the police of siding with the accused, saying that despite the lapse of a week, the police failed to arrest the rapists.
According to details, four fiendish youth including Usman, Azhar and Mehboob gang raped the daughter of a local labourer Muhammad Arshad in Government Primary School Pherowal after kidnapping her from her house in village Faazalpur, Shakargarh tehsil here a week ago.
The victim described that the accused gang raped her for the whole night and fled away after considering her dead due to her bad condition in the morning.
She told the newsmen here that Shah Gharib Police have registered a case (No. 189/2014) under sections 365-B and 376-B against the accused on the report of her father Muhammad Arshad.
The ill-fated gang rape victim regretted that despite the lapse of a week, the Shah Gharib Police failed to arrest the rapists who are said to be politically influential. She alleged that instead of arresting the accused, the police were sheltering them and had appeared reluctant to arrest them.
She claimed that the accused were threatening her family with dire consequences and forcing them to withdraw the case against them.
She appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to provide her justice and ensure early arrest of the rapists. She threatened to commit self-immolation in front of CM’s House in Lahore if the rapists were not arrested at the earliest. She also urged the Punjab Chief Minister to provide protection to her family who were receiving life threats from the accused.
Meanwhile, a large number of locals have protested against the gang rape incident and the Shah Gharib Police failure to arrest the influential rapists. They chanted anti-police slogans, demanding early arrest of the accused.
When contacted, Shah Gharib Police SHO Inspector Shahid Dhillon claimed that the police teams had been formed to arrest the rapists. He said that the accused would be arrested soon.
