AHMEDPUREAST Islamia University of Bahawalpur Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar said on Friday that the University College of Art and Design is a unique institution of arts in the southern Punjab and this college has been imparting latest education of painting, sculptors, graphics and textile designing to the students.
He expressed these views on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of the Annual Thesis Display in the University College of Art and Design in Baghdadul Jadeed Campus.
He said that the basic objective of establishing the college was to promote and preserve the rich traditions, culture and ancient civilisation of Bahawalpur region with a glorious past, through different mediums of art.
He was very pleased to note that the students with the proper guidance of their teachers have transferred their ideas on the canvas through the stroke of brush.
He also said that their achievement has been at par with the renowned institutions of art of other universities.
The VC said that the vast development exposed by the college over the past one year had been enormous and it was catering the needs of the contemporary age.
This factor has been clearly reflected in the display and they have excellently highlighted the local cultural heritage in their painting, textile design and graphic designing.
Later, with Regional Police Officer Captain (r) Muhammad Abid Qadri, DCO Dr.
Naeem Rauf and local industrialist Rana Muhammad Khalid visited every stall and appreciated the exhibits of the students.
He announced that the exclusive exhibition of their excellent work will be organised in Lahore and Islamabad in collaboration with the state institutions of art, so that the potential of the IUB students may also get exposure on a larger scale.
He added their ability could be acknowledged by the expert of art.
He announced a special grant of Rs 0.
5 million for the construction of a Display Centre and a cafeteria.
He also felicitated Dean Faculty of Arts Dr Najeeb Jamal and Principal Dr Nasrullah Khan Nasir for organising such a grand exhibition of art.
The local dignitaries including Malik Habibullah Bhutta, Syed Tabish Alwari, Mian Aqeel-ur-Rehman, President Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries Ch.
Muhammad Ali, faculty and students of the university visited the exhibition and displayed great interest in creative and innovative demonstration of the young artistes.
