LAHORE - Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Sher Ali Gorchani of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PNL-N) were elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly here on Monday and later took oath of their offices.
Rana Mashhood, deputy speaker of the previous Punjab Assembly, administered the oath to Rana Iqbal.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal was re-elected by the new assembly by securing 297 votes out of 332. The PTI candidate for the post of Speaker, Rashid Hafeez received 35 votes. The members of the provincial assembly voted through secret ballot and congratulated Rana Iqbal on being elected as speaker for the second time. Shahbaz Sharif was the first one to cast his vote.                          (Detailed story on Page 2)
