Another hike in power tariff

ISLAMABAD  – In yet another ‘regular move’, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Thursday announced to increase the power tariff for four months, after which a notification was issued under the monthly fuel adjustment formula. According to the notification, the latest hike is announced for the months of October, November and December (2011) and January 2012. The per unit increase for October is Rs 2.13, with Rs 1.17 for November, Rs 0.86 for December and Rs 1.87 for the month of January 2012. The power distribution companies will collect the payments from consumers in the bills of July and August 2012.Earlier, the Nepra had stopped the increase in power tariff during the proceedings in the Lahore High Court (LHC) after a petition was filed against the hike in prices. It has directed the power companies to collect payments in bills in the light of the LHC orders, while the consumers, who consume 50 units of electricity, will not be unaffected from the decision.
