PESHAWAR - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate from NA-1 Zulfiqar Afghani has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to declare all polling stations in his constituency sensitive and deploy Army on elections day to ensure peace.
Addressing a press conference on Friday here at the Peshawar Press Club, the PPP candidate said that certain political parties were trying to keep PPP away from elections campaign by creating law and order issue in the area.
He said that distributing threatening pamphlets and violence against PPP workers were the tactics to frighten them just ahead of general polls.
It is pertinent to mention here that the other day a PPP worker Fahim Khan was killed in a clash with the activists of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) in Ghareeb Abad area while several other people were injured.
Afghani asked the district administration and ECP to provide adequate security to their workers in NA-1, PK-1, PK-2 and PK-3, as PPP workers were being threatened through pamphlets to remove party flags from their homes and stop political activities.
 Flanked by party candidate from PK-1 Akbar Khan, Afghani said that in current situations deployment of Army at all polling stations in Peshawar was quite necessary to maintain peace on May 11.
To a query about PPP stance on the US drone attacks in tribal areas, he said that the attacks were started in the former MMA government. He said that during the MMA rule in the province, the US was given the permission for carrying out drone attacks in tribal area. “Through a well hatched conspiracy certain forces want to sideline PPP from national politics, but they will not be succeeded,” he maintained.
Terming the United States responsible for the bloodshed and militancy in Pakhtun belt, he said due to the PPP agreement with Iran over Pak-Iran gas pipeline, the US did not want his party to form next government in the country.
Therefore, he said the US had started supporting those political forces which would discard the project.
