AJK president-formed body on MUST stayed

MIRPUR (AJK)
Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court has, on a writ petition filed by Mirpur University of Science & Technology Vice Chancellor, granted a stay order against the formation of a fact-finding committee to probe the appointments made against various vacant positions in the MUST.
The learned court fixed May 9, 2015, as the next date of hearing of the case. Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate appeared as counsel on behalf of MUST Dr Habib-ur-Rehman in the court.
AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, who is also Chancellor of MUST, had, on an application moved by two of the unsuccessful candidates of different vacant positions in the MUST, constituted a three-member fact-finding committee to probe the appointments.
By challenging the formation of the committee, the petitioner contended that all the appointments were made entirely according to the prevalent rules and regulations through the requisite test, interviews and recommendations of a selection board by the competent authority - the Senate of the Mirpur University of Science & Technology, headed by its Chairman - chancellor of the varsity.
The VC described the formation of the fact-finding committee under the malafide intention to undermine the entire legal process under which the appointments were made. He prayed to the learned court to declare the fact-finding committee null and void to ensure maintaining the legal status of all the appointments.
