Brawl, forcible shutting down of businesses

BADIN - Sindh police on Sunday registered a case of brawl against former PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza at a local police station on Sunday.
Police were conducting raids to arrest Mirza. The situation turned tense in Badin city after police reportedly tried to arrest a supporter of former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza.
According to details, police tried to arrest Nadeem Mughal, a supporter of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, but his colleagues helped him to escape. Shortly after the incident, the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, accompanied by his gunmen, forced the shopkeepers to shut down their businesses in Badin city.
The local media video footage showed Mirza reached the local police station where he got into an altercation with the police officer on duty. The video showed the enraged former home minister breaking the glass table top in the deputy superintendent’s office, smashing his mobile phone and hurling abuses at him.
After brawl in the police station and forcibly shut the businesses down in Badin, police registered a case against Mirza. Officials at the Model Police Station, where the incident took place, said a case had been registered against Mirza and 20 other men on the complaint of a local trader.
Meanwhile, Dr Mirza told the local media that he had gone to the police station to register a case against what he called the attempted kidnapping of his supporter. He said a local politician wanted to ‘kidnap’ his supporter and murder him in a police ‘encounter’. He said if anything happens to him or his supporters, the administration and the government would be responsible for it.
The situation in Badin city was on edge as the PPP supporters came out on the streets in protest of the forced closure of shops by Mirza’s gunmen.
A large number of PPP supporters later gathered outside the police station, demanding a case be registered against Zulfiqar Mirza.
Moreover, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the officials to probe into the matter.
