WASHINGTON- The United States still believes that Pakistan’s 2013 elections to be free and fair, a State Department Spokesperson said Wednesday.
“Nothing has changed in our view”, Spokesperson Jen Psaki said when asked whether the U.S. still regards the national elections to be free and
fair, as it did when the polls they were completed, or accepts Imran Khan and his supporters’ claim of rigging.
The spokesperson went on to say that the United States was closely watching the situation. “As I understand, in Pakistan, the protests have died down and things have calmed a bit in the streets.”
She added, “I also want to make clear that our (US) embassy is fully open there in Islamabad. I know there was confusion about that yesterday.”
