FAISALABAD-The 35th death anniversary of Bashir Nizami, a leader of Pakistan Freedom Movement and Tehreek Khatm-e-Nubuwwat, will be marked here on Sunday (today).
Bashir Nizami was a great worker of freedom movement. He worked hard to spread the message of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal at every nook and corner of Sangla Hill, Sheikhupura and other parts of Punjab.
He was born in Sangla Hill in the house of Mian Muhammad Din Nizami. He was younger brother of the founding editor of daily Nawa-i-Waqt Hamid Nizami and elder brother of later editor of Nawa-i-Waqt Majid Nizami and Khalil Nizami. His only son is Ahmad Kamal Nizami, the bureau chief of Nawa-i-Waqt group.
In Sangla Hill, he was the first man who participated in freedom movement. Bashir Nizami was a very brave person who guided the Muslims through dialogues to make struggle for the independent Islamic country. In 1930, he joined Muslim League and invited Quaid-i-Azam to address a public procession at Sangla Hill, which was welcomed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He came to Sangla Hill, where Quaid-i-Azam and his companions Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan and Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain Chattha addressed the gathering. Meanwhile, he raised slogans with his companions. He was also the general secretary of All India Muslim League in Sangla Hill. He always fought for the rights of the poor even against the landlords and tycoons.
Bashir Nizami in 1940s went from house to house to spread the message of Pakistan Movement. The adjacent villages of Sangla Hill inhabited with armed Sikhs and Hindus who were hell bent on crushing the Pakistan Freedom Movement. But Bashir Nizami continued his struggle in this area valiantly without any fear of being killed.
At the time of partition, the Hindus and Sikhs started massacre of innocent Muslims. Bashir Nizami was informed that a group of Sikhs was going to attack Muslims at Sangla Hill. He along with other Freedom Movement workers kept guard for days and nights to provide security for the people. After the establishment of Pakistan, he worked hard for the rehabilitation of refugees.
After six years of the establishment of Pakistan, he participated in the movement with the same zeal. During the movement of 1953, he was arrested at Lahore Fort.
He also participated in the movement of restoration of democracy launched by Madr-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah and worked hard for it. He died on Sept 4, 1981. Fifteen years back, he was posthumously awarded gold medal by Nazria-e-Pakistan Foundation in recognition of his great struggle for the Freedom Movement.
He organised different processions, staged rallies and corner meetings to convey the message of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal. Last year, Railways Station Faisalabad was renamed after Bashir Nizami square which was inaugurated by former DCO Noorul Amin Mengal along with Tehreek Pakistan worker Sh Bashir Ahmad.
