ISLAMABAD- Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan today reiterated the government’s stance regarding Article 245. He said Article 245 has no link with any political party’s march, adding that there was no other motive behind the move except to counter terrorism threats.

Speaking today, the Interior Minister said PML-N government will never use the army for political battles, adding that Article 245 of the Constitution was implemented in Islamabad for the protection of citizens.

It was not invoked as a step against any protest, Nisar remarked.

Nisar said that the decision was taken after legal consultation. Article 245 was invoked 24 times since 2007, he revealed. He said Islamabad has not been handed over to the army. The army will be carrying out its operations under Anti-Terrorism Act, he concluded.
