Woman gives birth to quintuplets

KARACHI - A woman gave birth to five babies, after five years of her marriage, at the Civil Hospital on Friday. A woman namely Sumera, resident of Essa Nagri, gave birth to quintuplets of them four are girls and one boy. Due to the dearth of incubators and overcrowded wards at the Civil Hospital, babies were shifted to private pediatric nursery at Gulshan-e-Iqbal for procurement of appropriate medical facilities.
Talking to The Nation, the patient family expressed delight on the birth of five babies. “Indeed, it is a blessing of the Almighty to have five little angels at the same time. These children are the gift of God and we will try to nurture them in our best possible ways,” said the grandmother of the newborn babies. “Me and my husband were very worried as I have not conceived since we tied the knot 5 years back but the Almighty graced us with not one but five babies at the same time,” said the mother of newborn babies while talking to this scribe.
Doctors said it was a very unique case of delivery and the sensitive most too, which is observed in rarity, “This is the first case in my 7-year-carreer. Ultrasound taken prior to the delivery showed four babies but Sumera gave birth to five babies. Our senior surgeons have also dealt with the case to avoid any mishap,” said a junior surgeon Dr Sana. “Due to shortage of incubators, we have shifted the babies to private nursery with the consent of the concerned family,” she added.
The Nation also learnt that the babies were so weak. The mother and all the five babies are out of danger and are under treatment.
