LAHORE - Former Chief of Army Staff Gen (Retd) Jehangir Karamat has said that Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz participation in ‘Heart of Asia conference’ in Amritsar, India, is a positive development for Pakistan.
Jehangir was chief guest at the Lt Gen Shah Rafi Alam (Sitara-e-Juraat) Memorial Polo Cup final, where he distributed prizes among the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, the former COAS hoped that Sartaj Aziz will present Pakistan’s stance strongly in front of all stallholders in the region.
He also emphasised that terrorism in the region has its roots in ungovernable pockets in Afghanistan. Pakistan is keen to resolve all outstanding issues amicably, peacefully and through dialogue, he said.
“In fact without engaging Pakistan, there cannot be sustainable peace in Afghanistan as the two countries share ethnic, geographical, linguistic and cultural backgrounds. We hope Afghanistan will respond positively to Pakistan’s peace overtures,” he added.
Replying to a question, he said: “Due to fast-changing global realities, there are new partnerships, alignments and allies.”
