Fresh polls to calm down fraying tempers

MUZAFFARGARH - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar warned that if the parliament recommended the restoration of Nato supplies, millions of patriotic people would besiege the parliament house. He said that Pakistan is not only our home, it is the fortress of Islam, millions of people would rise to lay down their lives for its security and the Americans will not find any shelter anywhere.
Talking to newsmen at the residence of JI leader Umer Draz Farooqi here the other day, Dr Waseem Akhtar called for transparent polls to take the country out of the prevailing crises. He said that the elections announcement would force the political parties for reconciliation and preparations for polls, which would release the tension. He ruled out any electoral understanding with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but also admitted that solo-flight was not possible. The JI demanded for new, transparent voters list, independent election commission and acceptable interim government before general elections. Waseem said that during the tenure of the sitting so-called democratic government neither verdicts of Supreme Court (SC) were implemented nor resolutions of the parliament were followed. He said that Balochistan was currently like a volcano that could burst anytime. The JI leader held the PML-N was responsible for crises in Punjab and termed the provincial government worst example of bad governance.
He said that in the name of political reconciliation Sindh province had been handed over to terrorists. Political leadership is in itself involved in target killing in Karachi to keep the issue for politicking, he alleged.
He said that PPP-led federal government was following in the footsteps and policies of former dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf. He warned that JI would cordon off the Parliament House if Nato supplies were restored. Dr Waseem also said that the rulers were accepting US supremacy instead of the supremacy of the constitution and the nation would have to rise against them. The JI Ameer said the US interference in the country had crept in all institutions and things had crossed the limits and even powerful institutions were also under the US spell. He said the attacks on the GHQ and the Mehran air base had been carried out by the US, while the CIA, Mossad and RAW were involved in the disturbances in Balochistan and terrorism in other parts of the country. He said the nation was not prepared to tolerate these killings anymore. He urged the Army Chief Gen Kayani to revert to the Army’s motto of Iman, Taqwah and Jehad.
