NAB recovers Rs72m in BISE DI Khan land purchase case

PESHAWAR - Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Col (Retd) Shahzad Anwar Bhatti handed over a cheque of Rs 72 million to the Chairman BISE DI Khan Fazal Rabi here on Tuesday.
The amount was recovered by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through voluntary return in the case of illegal purchase of land executed by Noor Muhammad, ex-chairman BISE DI Khan, while inquiry against the said chairman is under process for misuse of authority and misappropriation of funds.
NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received a complaint from the provincial government against ex-chairman BISE DI Khan and others regarding corruption and corrupt practices in acquisition/ purchase of land for BISE DI Khan office. Director General NAB (KP) authorised Additional Director Ghazi Rahman to conduct inquiry.
Ex-chairman BISE DI Khan purchased land directly in sheer violation of land acquisition Act 1984 which clearly contains procedure for acquisition of land. But 60 kanals of land for Rs 72 million was directly purchased through sale deed on stamp paper from Haroon Ghazzanfar (private property owner) which speaks of mala fide intention on the part of ex-chairman and owner of the land as despite holding title and possession of the land, the government money was transferred and kept in the account of the land owner, causing loss to the state.
Inquiry team of NAB also visited the land purchased for BISE DI Khan and found that the said land is far away from the City area adjacent to the Chashma Sugar Mill, making the environment polluted and unpleasant, hence activities of BISE office can not be run smoothly. Subsequently, owner of the land agreed to enter into voluntary return and paid Rs 72 million.
