AJK EC announces schedule for polling

MIRPUR (AJK) - The Azad Jammu & Kashmir Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule for holding of polling on July 20 in the two constituencies of AJK Legislative Assembly including LA-30 (Jammu-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir Valley-I), says an official notification. An official notification issued by the AJK Election Commission on Monday on the orders of the Chief Election Commissioner (r) Justice Khawaja Muhammad Saeed, said that consequent upon reports and recommendations received from the offices of the Provincial Police Officer, Government of Sindh on June 24, 2011 and from the concerned Returning Officers, polling for the constituencies LA-30 (Jammu & Others-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir valley - I) was postponed by the AJK chief election Commissioner on account of worsened law and order and security situation in Karachi with an aim to avoid any potential violence and bloodshed in Karachi on the day of polling to AJK Legislative Assembly elections held on June 26 on the part of the miscreants. The notification said the AJK Chief Election Commissioner postponed the polling in the aforesaid constituencies on June 26 in exercise of his powers conferred upon him under section 10 (A) read with section 92 of the AJK Legislative Assembly (Elections) Ordinance 1970. The CEC of AJK in exercise of power conferred upon him by sub clause (d) of Section 10 (I) of the AJK Legislative Assembly (elections) Ordinance 1970 (Ordinance X of 1970) on Monday fixed the date for polls for AJK Legislative Assembly constituencies LA-30 (Jammu & others-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir Valley-I), on 20th of July, 201. The polling will be held from 8.00am to 5.00pm without any pause, according to the official notification. And according to other official reports, the AJK Election Commission announced the July 20 schedule for holding of polling to AJK Legislative Assembly constituencies LA-30 (Jammu & others-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir Valley-I) on the directives of the AJK High Court, which (the learned court) had, on Saturday, reserved the judgment on the writ petition filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against the postponement of the polling in the aforesaid two constituencies of Karachi and other areas on the eve of elections to AJK Legislative Assembly on June 26. The MQM had, on Tuesday last, filed writ petition in Azad Jammu & Kashmir High Court against the postponement of the elections, by the AJK election Commission, to the two seats of AJK Legislative Assembly in constituency LA-30 (jammu and others) and LA-36 (Kashmir valley) belonging to the Jammu & Kashmir refugees, living in Karachi and other concerned areas.
