Kundi takes note of agri water scarcity in DI Khan

ISLAMABAD - Acting Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi has said that DI Khan and its adjoining districts were facing immense shortage of irrigation water, which resulted into destruction of crops. He directed IRSA to take solid steps to address the scarcity of irrigation water to the area and ensure its due share. He said this while talking to Chairman and Member IRSA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who called on him in Parliament House on Monday. The acting speaker directed IRSA to ensure the release of due share of DI Khan and constitute a joint monitoring team of WAPDA and IRSA to monitor the supply of water in CRBC. He expressed his concern over the theft of irrigation water from CRBC and said that irrigation department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should take immediate measure to control this theft. He also expressed his reservations on substandard repair of embankments of CRBC and said that floods of low intensity would prove more devastating than the last year. Chairman, IRSA while briefing the acting speaker about the details of distribution of water to provinces informed that there was no cut in the share of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa water and the province was getting water according to its share, however, due to lack of capacity in CRBC and illegal theft of water the farmers at tail-end were facing hardships. He assured the acting speaker that a joint monitoring team would be constituted in that regard.
