PPP strives for strong democratic institutions, says Kaira

ISLAMABAD - The central information secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party has said that they have always strived for strengthening of the democratic institutions and culture in the country and as part of their struggle PPP has worked out a comprehensive plan to impart training to the political workers of the party. Giving details about his partys plan at a press conference on Monday Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the first batch of 26 information secretaries of the party from various districts would be imparted training which would start from today (Tuesday). He said the training of political workers would help strengthen the democracy and democratic institutions in the country. Kaira said political leaders, media and analysts would brief the workers. He said all the political leaders from across the country would be invited in many phases for training. He also invited other political parties for training. The PPP will also extend all kind of assistance to other political parties for training. To a question he said local bodies elections would be held soon. He said We are waiting for a green signal from the provinces in this regard. He said election of local bodies is a subject of the provinces, however, the federal government is ready to facilitate the provinces in this regard. The PPP Information Secretary said if any province was ready and wanted to hold local bodies election, the federal government had no objection on it. To a question he said the PPP believed in reconciliation and consultations. He said the MQM was a democratic party and hoped it would take a decision in the best interest of the country. We want to end the politics of hatred and confrontation as it will not serve the interests of the country, he said. About the AJK election, he said the mandate of the people of Kashmir should be respected. He said free and fair elections were held in AJK and if any one had any proof of rigging he should approach the courts. He said the PPP contested the AJK election on the issues while the PML-N agenda was to create differences. The former Information Minister termed July 5 as a black day in the history of country. He said July 5,1977 martial law had promoted the politics of difference, extremism, and grouping. He said the country was facing multiple problems which were outcome of July 5 action. Qamar Zaman Kaira said the PPP-led government had almost restored the 1973 Constitution and the unanimous NFC Award and devolution of powers to the provinces were other feathers in the cap of PPP government.
