JUI-F shura set to devise strategy on thorny issues

PESHAWAR - JUI-F’s Central Shura will meet here for two on July 8 and 9 in order to work out a strategy and discuss important matters particularly the post-Nato supplies restoration situation, making electoral alliance with other parties in future and the possibility of the restoration of MMA.
Around 60 Shura members from across the country would attend the meeting, which would be held with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl Rehman in the chair.
Besides, JUI-F’s provincial presidents from all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and FATA would also participate in the meeting, where JUI-F is likely to make certain major decisions in view of the political situation in the country. The Shura will meet at JUI-F’s provincial headquarters on Ring road.
Talking to TheNation, JUI-F spokesman Abdul Jalil Jan said that core of issues particularly resumption of Nato supplies would be on top of the agenda of the meeting. Restoration of Nato supplies for US and Nato forces in Afghanistan, he said, was a sheer violation of the resolutions passed by the Parliament. Therefore, JUI-F’s Shura would make a decision.
Moreover, JUI-F’s district presidents would also present their reports in the Shura meeting, which, he said would continue for two consecutive days. The reports would be regarding party’s position in the district concerned as well as preparation for coming general and local bodies’ elections. The central Shura, is a body that gives policy and guidelines and the party has to implement it.
Besides, the Shura would also discuss in detail the possibility of an electoral alliance with political and religious parties as, on provincial level, the JUI-F has so far held several meetings with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and PML (N) in this regard. He said that they had received a very positive response from the aforementioned parties so far.
Abdul Jalil Khan went on to say that Shura would also consider restoration of MMA as, still certain top office bearers in JI oppose the idea. In this meeting, the JUI-F may not be able to make a final decision, but it would definitely consider other options if the MMA is not restored prior to coming general polls, he maintained.
Not only this, during the meeting, JUI-F central command would be apprised about the arrangements made so far for holding a Grand Tribal Jirga under the auspices of JUI-F KP chapter on July 15. The Jirga, he informed, would be attended dozens of delegates from FATA and FRs so that to get their viewpoint s as whether FATA be merged with KP or be declared a separate province, he concluded.
