Protesters block main road creating major traffic jam





PESHAWAR - Hundreds of protesters of Tehkal Peshawar took to street and staged a violent protest demonstration against prolonged power outages, resulting injuries to two persons, when police resorted to aerial firing and teargas to disperse the protesters.
The protester belonged to Tehkal Payan and Tehkal Bala blocked the main University Road for traffic. They placed heavy blockades and hurdles on the road for complete blockage.
This situation paralyzed the routine life of the people as one of the busiest roads of Peshawar remained blocked for almost five hours.  Holding sticks and banners, the protesters chanted slogans against the government and hurled stones on traffic signals and roadside billboards to record their protest.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed in the area but due to the huge gathering of the people, the police force seemed helpless to take action against the protesters. The road also affected the traffic flow on other routes including Bara Road, Abdara Road, Old Jamrod Road, Canal Road and Ring Road near Peshtakhara. The motorists whose vehicles were trapped in the congested areas walked several kilometers despite the scorching heat. Large number of patients who came from the far flung districts could not reached their hospital and baldy suffered due to the protest rally. 
The station House officer Tehkal Police Station and other high-ranking officers of police visited the area to peacefully disperse the protesters.  However despite the repeated request of the district administration the protester continued their protest.
The protester were of the view that in the previous rally the authorities has given him assurance that there would no prolong power outage.
Later police used brutal baton charge and tear gas to disperse the protestors, the police also opened aerial firing which resulted injuring of two persons mistakenly while other protester also sustained injuries as a result of baton charge.
