PTI, JUI-F threaten protests over Nato route issue

PESHAWAR - Expressing grave concern over the decision of restoring Nato supply routes, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fata chapter Wednesday warned of launching a protest movement from Bajaur Agency against the decision.
“The restoration of Nato supply routes was neither linked to stoppage of drone attacks nor rulers took Pakistani nation into confidence in this regard,” said Ahmad Zeb, PTI organizer for Bajaur Agency, at a news conference at the Press Club.
He said that despite repeated protests and requests against the restoration of Nato supply to US forces in Afghanistan, the decision was taken to reopen the route while with that decision the law and order situation would further worsen in tribal belt particularly in Khyber Agency.
He added the rulers had preferred their personal interests to the national interests regarding reopening the routes for supply as it must be linked to stoppage of drone attacks in the tribal areas.
The elected representatives from tribal belt, he maintained, should resign as they had neither made proper legislation regarding education and employment nor they had risen for the basic rights of tribesmen in Parliament.
He demanded that there should be a separate high court for Fata to provide speedy justice to tribesmen as their cases were in pending in different courts of the country.
The prolonged electricity loadshedding, he said, had badly affected Pakistan’s economy and industrialists were compelled to shift their business to other countries, saying that electricity was next to nil in Bajour agency because 18 to 20 hours loadshedding occurred there.
Criticizing the PPP-led government, Zeb said that the rulers had completely failed in provision of relief, peace, employment, deflation and other rights to the citizens, therefore they should step down.
Meanwhile, the activists of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) district Peshawar also held a protest demonstration and expressed grave concern over the restoration of Nato supply routes, here at Sher Shah Suri road outside Peshawar Press Club.
The demonstrators were carrying and a banner inscribed with anti-US slogans. They were also chanting full throat slogans that “Stop Nato supply”.
The protestors led by Abid Ullah Shaheen, Nazim IJT Peshawar said that the restoration of Nato supply to US forces in Afghanistan would be considered treason with the martyrs of army soldiers. He said that Pakistan should aloof from the US alliance in war against terrorism because in this war Pakistan had faces various challenges which had badly affected its economy.
He said that they would not tolerate reopening of routes for Nato supply on any condition and would create hurdles for the supply on Ring Road Peshawar, adding that they had decided to launch a series of protest demonstration against the reinstatement of the concerned supply.
