Musharaf facing threat from the Talibans : Musharaf’s Lawyers

ISLAMABAD- Former President Pervez Musharraf’s Lawyers presented a threatening letter today in the Special Court, claiming it to be from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).


A three member bench of Supreme Court had resumed the course of hearing of high treason case against Ex-President Pervez Musharraf.


The letter stated that Musharraf’s advocates Ahmed Raza Kasuri, Sharifuddin Pirzada and Anwar Mansoor should separate themselves from the case or they would be killed.


Anwar Mansoor, counsel for Pervez Musharraf said that the court should be shifted to a secure place. A petition has been filed in this regard as the former President is receiving life threats, he added.


Ahmad Raza Kasuri, counsel for Pervez Musharraf argued that banned organization including Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had threatened Musharaff. Advocate Anwar Mansoor  and Sharif ud Din Pirzada should separate themselves from Pervez Musharrafs' high treason case.


“We cannot contest the case in such circumstances. We have filed application for shifting the court to some safe place." he claimed.


Justice Faisal Arab remarked after hearing the plea “we cannot abandon our job due to life threat and the courts must continue to do their job in all circumstances." 


Head of prosecution team Akram Sheikh said the courts work in war like situation as well.


Counsel for Musharraf Rana Ijaz came upto the rostrum and informed the court that he had received information regarding insufficient security at the Supreme Court. Three judges, one prosecutor and two defence counsels can be targeted in a terror attack, he added.


Ahmad Raza Kasuri told the court one Prime Minister has already been sent to gallows.  If any harm is caused to Musharaf then a case will be registered against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 7, 2014.


The court remarked that its orders for indictment of Pervez Musharraf on March 11, 2014 were legal.
