Japan provides furniture to Peshawar schools

PESHAWAR - The Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA-UNDP) programme KP with the financial assistance of government of Japan provided furniture for students and teaching staff of government-run schools in three union councils of district Peshawar.
In this regard, a ceremony was held at Government High School Sufaid Dheri, Academy Town, in Union Council Sufaid Dheri, in which a member of provincial assembly from the constituency, Yasin Khalil, participated as chief guest.  Arshad Majeed Mohmand, national program director of RAHA KP, Haji Fazal Elahi, advisor to chief minister on environment, Hamid Mehmood, additional director education KP, Shukriya Syed, provincial programme manager RAHA KP, principals of schools, teaching staff, EDOs, and notable of the area attended the function.
The Raha KP has provided furniture facility to more than 18 government-run schools, including 12 boys and 6 girls schools, with financial assistance of government of Japan, in Malakand Dhair, Sufaid Dheri, and University Town of Peshawar, through which around 8,788 boys and girls students would get benefit. Arshad Mohmand in his speech explained the basic aims and various interventions of RAHA programme in its targeted refugees hosted and hosting areas in KP, and said the furniture facility has been provided on demand of local community.
Hamid Mehmood, while shedding light on important of education, said that the education department has estimated a budget of Rs 7 billion to fulfil the shortcoming for provision of furniture facility in government schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also stressed the need for enhancement of education budget up to four percent of GDP.
Fazal Elahi in his speech informed the participants that the government had inducted more than 8,000 teachers through transparent manner to overcome the teachers’ shortage in government schools.
