BAJAUR AGENCY - A Pakistani soldier was martyred Sunday by firing from Afghanistan in the mountainous border tribal region of Bajaur when unidentified armed men attacked a security force’s checkpost.According to the official sources, the Frontier Crops official was killed at 11:45 am at the border area of Ghakhi of Lovi Mamond tehsil, 30 km from the agency head quarters Khar.A military statement said the incident happened at 11:45am. It was unclear whether the firing came from Afghan forces or from Pakistani or Afghan militants hiding across the border.“We don’t have more information yet. We can only confirm that a security official was killed because of firing from across the border in Bajaur region,” said a senior military official when contacted. No militant group had claimed responsibility for the attack till filing of this report.The officials of the local administration said that FC personnel took positions immediately to confront the attackers and returned fire however there were no reports of any casualty on the attackers’ side. The administration, in collaboration with security forces and members of the local village defence committees, also launched an investigation into the attack, said an official.Meanwhile, tribal elders and members of the local peace committees of Mamond tribe strongly condemned the attack and vowed to retaliate in case of similar attack in future.Also in the day the political administration of Bajaur dynamited and torched house of a suspected militant in Nazar Meena area of Barang tehsil on Sunday. An official of the local administration said personnel of Bajaur levies forces blew up the house of Zameen Khan with explosives.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
