BARA - At least 10 persons including a bride, women and children died while several others injured when a container overturned on three vehicles carrying wedding guests here on Monday.
According to line officer political administration Nawab Shah Afridi, a transit trade container carrying ghee and cooking oil fell over a coach and two cars carrying wedding guests in Katta Kashta area, tehsil Jamrud of Khyber Agency. The cars and coach passengers were crushed under the container. As a result, 10 people including bride, women and children died on the spot while several others sustained wounds.
The local people, political administration and security personnel after hectic efforts recovered the bodies and injured as the container completely destroyed the vehicles.
Those injured were shifted to Hayyatabad Medical Complex and Peshawar where according to hospital sources condition of several injured people was serious and it is feared that death toll could rise further.
The locals blamed that despite being informed the political administration reached after two hours which caused loss of lives.
Political administration officials said that crane was needed to remove the container, but it took much longer time due to poor condition of the road.
According to political administration, container was not fixed properly on the trailer which led to the accident. The driver of the vehicle was arrested by the administration.
Meanwhile, Pak-Afghan Highway was blocked after the fatal accident resulting in massive traffic jam and long queues of vehicles on both sides.
