SAHIWAL/JHANG/VEHARI/HAFIZABAD - At least 11 persons including four students, one of them a girl, were killed and dozen others sustained injuries in various accidents occurred due to dense smog in different areas here on Friday.
In Sahiwal, four students were killed and five others sustained multiple injuries in different accidents due to smog on Friday.
According to Rescue 1122, two students - Hamza Munir and Sidra Munir were killed in a collision between two trucks and a car at Chak 187/9-L due low visibility caused by smog. The car driver identified as Ghulam Nabi also got injured critically in the incident. The rescuers said that the accident occurred due to low visibility caused by the smog.
In another such accident, a student Irsalan was killed when his motorcycle rammed into an oil-tanker near Chak 134/9-L while another student Muhammad Usman was killed and his uncle Arshad injured when their bike collided with pick-up van near Chak 71/4-R. Similarly, two brothers - Mujahid Hussain and Zahid Hussain got injured when a trailer hit their bike on Sahiwal-Multan Road.
The Deera Rahim, Ghalla Mandi and Noor Shah police have registered separate cases and started investigation.
In Jhang, four persons including a woman and her teenage son were killed in two accidents occurred due smog separately here.
According to police, a woman along with her son was crushed to death on Jhang-Chiniot Road near Satiana due to severe smog. Muhammad Usman,13, son of Muhammad Tufail, a seventh-grader was taking his mother 50-year-old Zubaida, resident of Chak 36/JB somewhere on a bike. As they reached near Satiana Adda, a speeding car hit the bike, killing both the teenager and his mother on the spot. The car driver, however, managed to flee from the spot. In another incident that took place on Jhang-Faisalabad Road, two labourers were killed.
According to Rescue 1122, three labourers including Samer Abbas, Muhammad Faisal and Muhammad Mohsin, resident of Chak 216/JB were on the way to a Textile Mills situated on Jhang-Faisalabad Road near New Lahore. As they reached near Adda Madhani Jutt, a speeding trailer hit the motorcycle.
Resultantly, Mohsin succumbed to his injures on the spot while Faisal breathed his last in Allied Hospital Faisalabad while Samer Abbas was admitted to Allied Hospital in critical condition. The Mochiwala Police claimed to have arrested trailer driver Abdul Sattar and registered a case against him.
In Vehari, two people died when a truck carrying cotton bales overturned here on Friday. The police said that a cotton bales-laden truck overturned due to speeding at Mittro-Karampur Road.
Resultantly, driver of the truck and cleaner died on the spot in the accident. The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities from where they were handed over to heirs after post-mortem.
In Hafizabad, a man was killed and two others injured critically when a speeding van dashed against a parked van near Pindi Bhattian motorway Interchange. The police said that the accident took place due to dense smog and speeding.
According to police source, one Furqanullah of Peshawar was cleaning glasses of his van near Bagh Khuna when another speeding van, coming from the rear, rammed into it. Resultantly Furqanullah died on the spot while his two companions sustained critical injuries. The van driver fled the scene after the accident.
