OUR STAFF REPORTER ISLAMABAD - An exceptional mime performance themed on Faiz Ahmed Fiazs optimistic poem Umeed-e-Sahar Ki Baat Suno portraying how Faiz brought revolutionary changes in oppressed society through his poetry grasped the attention of the audience at a jam-packed-hall.
Students of The University of Gujarat performed mime (a form of theatre in which movements and expression are presented through body language) in an evening dedicated to Faiz organised by UoG, in collaboration with the NLA, HEC and NTS.
The performance depicted that hope emerged in oppressed society as Faiz narrated in his poetry.
The expressions showed how society reacts in tyrannical regimes and a ray of hope overshadowed frustration.
Alia Rasheed, a Lahore based singer performed Fiazs kalam and Raees Ahmed played violin on the occasion.
Haroon Habib, lecturer, the School of Art, Design and Architecture, UoG, said the performance is based on the struggle period of Faiz how he was arrested in 'Rawalpindi conspiracy case.
Through this performance we would like to depict similarities between past and present as we are currently suffering oppression as the people had two to three decades ago.
A number of literary personalities, teachers and students participated and enjoyed the musical and mime performances.
Pro Dr Muhammad Nizamudin, vice Chancellor of UoG said youth are real future and ray of hope for Pakistan thats why Faiz Ahmed Fiaz addressed to the youth as an agent of change and asked them to play proactive role for protection of rights of oppressed classes.
Murtaza Noor, Secretary General, Quaid-i-Azam University Alumni Association explained the objectives of the program.
He was of the view that poetry and message by Faiz is real source of inspiration for the weak segments of the society.
The event was continuation of series of activities as government announced 2011 as Faiz year in which a number of events, including seminars, conferences and exhibitions, are being arranged across the country.
