Toxic liquor claims 5 lives

LARKANA (Agencies) - Poisonous liquor claimed five lives while another five people were still in critical condition at hospital on Sunday. According to police, some villagers fell unconscious after drinking toxic liquor at a gathering with former UC naib nazim Ghulam Hyder Sheikh. They were taken to hospital where five of them died. The deceased were identified as Ghulam Rasool Sheikh (35), Muharram Ali Sheikh (34), Babu Sheikh (40), Khalid Sheikh and Aijaz Sheikh while Abdul Jabbar, Ali Nawaz Sheikh, Manzoor Sheikh, Safdar Sheikh and Umar were still in hospital. Police handed over the bodies to heirs after autopsy. Larkana SSP Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh constituted an enquiry team to look into the matter. Rasheed Wagan Police arrested the former naib nazim and Bashir Unar. Meanwhile, Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah has sought a report about the incident and ordered the officials concerned to probe the matter. Several distilleries have been functioning in suburban areas of the district and dozens of people have so far lost their lives after drinking poisonous liquor.
