Saud Majeed could be next Punjab governor

LAHORE - Foremr member of the National Assembly Muhammad Saud Majeed is in the limelight to become the next governor of Punjab.
Sources in the PML-N disclosed that the party leadership had almost reached the decision to appoint Saud as next governor.
Saud Majeed belongs to Bahawalpur, which is second important area of South Punjab after Multan.
Sources say certain members in the party have reservations on the nomination of Saud primarily on the ground he did not originally belong to South and was a settler. The party source say, the group is being brought home that Saud as Punjab governor could be much useful for the people of the south Punjab in respect of the development schemes and the party in that area on account of his popularity and services to the masses.
Saud Majeed commands much respect with the party high command for his role in south Punjab when others from that part were changing loyalties during the military rule of Pervez Musharraf. They say then Saud showed extreme allegiance to the party facing every hardship. They say not that but in a situation when the party is up against many challenges on the internal and external fronts, the party needs a person as governor who can facilitate implementation of the government policies instead of becoming a stumbling block.
Sources further say the party leadership is also inclined to appoint Raja Zafarul Haq as chairman of the Senate after he would return to the upper house following the March election. They said Raja Zafar was offered the governorship but he preferred to stay in the Senate.
Sources say a formal announcement of the name of the next governor will be made after finalisation of the names of the PML-N Senate candidates.
