KARACHI - Chairman Kashmir Committee and Chief of JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Thursday said that holding of premature general elections in the country was not against the Constitution of the country ,however, it needs a caretaker government acceptable to all to hold the polls.
Addressing a Press conference following the meeting of his party, he said that there was need for consensus among all the political parties about any snap elections in the country and that democracy must not be allowed to derail under any pretext. ‘I do not think anything wrong in holding early elections and I do foresee polls in 2012’, he added.
Early polls, he reiterated must not be due to disagreement among different institutions in the country nor should it lead to dispute among them. ‘We are passing through a crucial phase and cannot allow derailment of democracy’, he stressed.
Responding to a query, he said it also requires having an independent Election Commission to hold free and fair elections in the country. However, all such decisions should be taken at political level, he added. According to him the electoral lists contain, 35 million bogus votes and called upon political parties to take a unanimous stand on this issue.
To another question, Fazl said he had talked to PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif for bringing close all the Opposition parties ,however, his response is awaited.
Commenting over the revival of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA),  JUI chief said: ‘we want to revive it being our foremost desire’, however, said that Jamaat-i-Islami wants 50 per cent seats in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and, added, there must be certain formula for seat adjustment.
JUI chief said Pakistan cannot afford clash between the State organisations and advised that the government and the judiciary should work within their own limits as the Constitution envisages.
 He said PML-N as well as JUI-F had participated in the polls conducted by Pervez Musharraf.
On the occasion provincial chief of JUI (F) Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro informed the journalists that the party would hold a public meeting in Karachi on January 27th.
He stated that this would be the largest congregation ever witnessed in Karachi and would be attended by party workers and supporters from all parts of Sindh.
