National Assembly passes anti-terrorism amendment bill

ISLAMABAD- The National Assembly today passed the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2014.
The lower house approved the bill that incorporated recommendations proposed by the opposition in Senate. The bill would be effective in countering terrorist groups and their supporters involved in financing terrorism and money-laundering inside Pakistan.
The latest amendments compel security forces to seek permission from a Grade-17 officer or a magistrate before opening fire on suspects. The news came a day after the opposition-controlled Senate had conditionally approved an earlier version of the bill on the assurance of the government that their amendments and proposals would be incorporated into the bill in the weeks after the budget session.
