Bahawalpur-A knowledge monument dedicated to educational services of late Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi-V has been established in front of Islamia University of Bahawalpur Abbasia Campus.
State Minister for Education and Professional Training Engr Balighur Rehman along with IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar and Regional Police Officer Dr Ahsan Sadiq inaugurated the monument at University Chowk here the other day.
The monument, showing a book and pen, has been designed under the supervision of Dr Qaiser Mushtaq. A number of teachers, students, faculty members, media and civil society persons presented their proposed models for the monument. The model was installed at University Chowk which was finally chosen by the university administration.
On the occasion Engr Balighur Rehman said that the monument is a result of the university and district administration's joint efforts to revive the beauty of Bahawalpur city. "The revival of Bahawalpur Old City, reconstruction of Fort Derawar and establishment of model and craft bazaars are part of these efforts," he added. He also felicitated Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Saqib Zafar, University College of Art and Design principal Dr Nasarullah Khan Nasir, faculty member Ali Naeem and a student Ansar Fareed for designing the knowledge monument.
