QUETTA: Arrested employees of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Friday showed that corrupt officials issued around 90,000 identity cards to foreigners in Qilla Abdullah and other areas.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided Nadra’s office on Double Road on May 4, and detained about nine employees during the raid. Two male DEOs Khalid and Zaheer and two women DEOs were among the detainees. Other persons taken into custody included three security guards and two officials.
Investigations revealed that officials pocketed Rs 40,000 to Rs 100,000 bribe for issuance of each identity card.
Earlier in February, a report compiled by an intelligence agency showed certain officials of NaDRA were involved in the business of making illegal national identification cards (NIC) for terrorists belonging to different countries.
The report alleged the officials pocketed bribes from individuals of Afghan, Bengali, Uzbek and American origins, while alleging that the corrupt officials were still holding positions and keeping their ranks.
The agency further revealed that many of the forged identity cards seized from terrorists killed in operations were issued from Karachi.
Deputy General Manager Operations and Manager Operations of NADRA along with other officials were involved in the crime.
