ISLAMABAD: A commission comprising Special Prosecutor Misbah-ul-Hasan Qadri and Defence Councel Raja Rizwan Abbasi arrived in Karachi on today to examine a boat, Al-Fouz, believed to have been used in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday ordered the commission to travel to Karachi to investigate the boat and record the testimony of witnesses from the Federal Investigation Agency, who saw the boat being seized at the Karachi shipyard in 2009.
The order was given after agents from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) argued at the ATC that the boat was too large to be produced in court and that the examination of the witness cannot be completed separately from the production of the boat before the court, hence the commission needed to be permitted to travel to see the boat.
According to sources, the commission is due to lodge its investigative report with the ATC next Wednesday.
Al-Fouz was allegedly used by the suspects in the Mumbai attacks, in which 166 people were killed and more than 300 were injured, to cross into Indian waters.
