Police 'refuse case filing against Malik

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police on Monday refused to lodge an FIR against Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and advised the complainant to contact IGP Sindh to register FIR against the minister. Please contact the Sindh police chief as the allegations you are referring to, dont fall in our jurisdiction, Assistant Superintendent of Police Hassan Kamal said to Advocate Supreme Court Tariq Asad, the applicant. When contacted by this correspondent on telephone, Tariq Asad confirmed that he approached Secretariat Police Station to get an FIR registered against the federal interior minister for having committed criminal offences of murder and conspiracy but he did not get satisfactory reply from Islamabad police. Although they (police) received the application but ASP Hassan Kamal and SHO Mohammad Hakim were not in a mood to further process my application, Tariq Asad told TheNation. Contrary to this, ASP Hassan Kamal, when contacted by TheNation, not only refused to acknowledge receipt of the application against Malik but also denied meeting the applicant. I cant recall any meeting with Advocate Tariq Asad. Also, I dont know if the secretariat police Station received any such application against Malik, the ASP said when contacted by the TheNation on Monday evening. According to sources, the meeting between Asad and Hassan and Hakim continued for more that two hours in the premises of Secretariat Police Station in which the police officers tried their best to convince the applicant to get beck his application. I told the police officers that the accused has an office and residence in Islamabad, so, the Islamabad police should register an FIR against him, however, I am still confused why did they want me to refer to Sindh police, the applicant said. According to law, the police across the country are bound to register First Information Report against the accused. Causing obstacles or refusal to lodge an FIR is itself a crime, said the legal expert.
