ECP office in Nushki attacked with grenade

QUETTA - Armed men on Saturday attacked the Election Commission Office with hand grenade in Nushki district, some 148 kilometers (East) from the provincial capital.
According to Nushki Police SHO Muhammad Afzal, the armed men riding a motorcycle tossed a hand grenade at the house which landed inside the boundary wall of the office with a huge blast. As a result, a vehicle of ECP office damaged, he added.
No casualty was reported in the attack, however a person received minor injuries. “Police were alert to ensure security of the office when the incident occurred. The attackers managed to escape when the police opened fire in retaliation,” said the SHO.
A case has been registered on behalf of Assistant Election Commission officer Azizullah against unknown persons.  However, no group has claimed the responsibility for the grenade attack.
Earlier, Election Commission offices were attacked in Kharan and Awaran district while in the last month, District Election Commissioner Ziaullah Qasmi was gunned down in Quetta.
Banned Baloch armed groups, including Baloch Liberation Army, Balochistan Liberation Front and Baloch Republican Army have appealed the masses to refrain from election process and threatened attacks. The Balochistan election commissioner has submitted a report to the ECP, outlining security concerns in the province ahead of the elections and suggested increased security for sensitive polling stations.
